I'm not so sure air in the system would cause this issue; I would think it would more likely cause the clutch not to fully disengage and make shifting difficult. The clutch in my 1995 900S is cable actuated, so I'm not speaking from experience, only logic. I'm thinking there's something wrong under the bell-housing, whether it's the actual clutch or not is somewhat irrelevent if it has to come apart anyhow.

When this happens, what do you have to do to correct it or does it correct itself? Does pushing in the clutch and releasing it "fix" it? Maybe the input shaft spline needs some lubrication. On mine there is a little plastic access cover you can remove and then spray the spline with some grease, being careful not to spray the clutch disc.

As far as clutch life expectancy, it's pretty much a funtion of how it's driven; ie, how much one slips the clutch starting from rest as well as how well one matches revs during shifting. The one on my car is original, and after 13 years and 165,000 miles, it still will not slip.
