$1500?!!!! Did you put 500K miles on it or something?
First of all, I wouldn't trade in a Viggen. You get reamed by the blue book values, which don't accurately take into account the limited number of Viggens that were made. Advertise it on CL or SaabNet and you'll be amazed at who will crawl out of the woodwork for it.
As far as the repairs go, it's hard to recoup your investment on new stuff, but if you can get some refurbished stuff, like a SID (several places sell refurbished ones) it may be worth it. Good luck!
