I live in the MOjave Desert in california and the hottest it gets in around 105F. Tucson gets marginally warmer (say 110F) but you should not ever see the evil 120F temps Phoenix suffers under.
Anyway, my experience owning two Saabs in a hot, dry region are as follows:
1. Make sure your water pump, thermostat, and associated hoses are in excellent condition.
2. Get a new battery, and replace it every two years (three years tops!)whether or not it has a 72 month guarantee, or is 'maintenance free,' etc. Heat kills batteries and you do not want to be stranded at 110F.
3. Buy a set of tire chains. Mt Lemon is just outside of Tucson and has snow in winter so you'll need a decent set of chains to access the mountains and other AZ ski areas. And even though you've driven in Maine and know how to drive on snow, the AZ Highway Patrol will ticket you if you don't have chains mounted.
4. Forget the Lincoln's head on the penny rule for replacing tires. Keep lots of tread on your tires to handle asphalt that can get to 200F in summer.
5. Consider getting some window tint to reduce the heat inside the vehicle.
