Anders & Others - Your advice on ABS Sensor Issues

My 1994 900 SE V6 went to a shop for front struts and rear brakes. After the 'repairs', my ABS failure light was on and they snapped the rear emergency brake cable. I personally replaced the two part brake cable assembly (what a job) and didn't notice any damage to the rear ABS sensor wires. Is it possible that new rotors and pads could affect the rear sensors in the hubs??
When they replaced the struts, they mangled the original aluminum sensor brackets and replaced these with the newer plastic version. It looked like they took a cold chisel to the aluminum ones to get them off and I wonder if they destroyed the sensors in the process. I took one sensor off and it measured 1.6 Kohms. Both sensors had wear on the tips, with a minor amount of metal exposed. They claimed that the aluminum brackets had corroded and tipped the sensors into the axle toothed ring. Their claim was that the axle/ring need to be replaced since the gap seemed to large. The sensors are soft steel so that made no sense.
Does anyone know what the gap should be between the sensors and the axle toothed ring? Since my Saab is one of the first NG900 series, I'm wondering if the newer plastic bracket results in a larger gap. I did note that the slop in the plastic bracket allows a tipping of the sensor of over .040". I filed the bracket to get a firm seat but still don't know what the spacing to the ring should be. Any advice would be welcomed.
Thanks,
Jag
