SeeVTSaab makes all excellent points. Turbo cars need the proper NGK plugs, replaced every 15-20K miles.
I would start with the thermostat if you don't know how old it is. This is treated as a maintenance item by a lot of people. sold cheap at a certain site sponsor and a very easy DIY. Make sure you have a gasket for it (I pulled mine out this spring with difficulty as whoever had been there last had stuck it in there with gasket maker. and i do mean stuck.)
The temp sensor is more expensive but not prohibitive. looks like a nut in the drivers side of the cylinder head with a wire coming out, just in front of where the upper radiator hose attaches to the head. also very easy DIY but take care you don't spill any coolant. I guess that goes for the tstat install too - Dean posted a very effective method for siphoning the coolant out a while back - no mess if done right.
