I would check the clutch line between master and slave first of all.
The design of the clutch pedal and master cylinder is that the the spring behind pedal and it's leverage system (like a teeter/toter system) will hold the pedal down if there is no spring back help from the pressure plate.
You can't bleed these systems by pumping the pedal. You have to push fluid through by applying pressure to the reservoir.
