600-800lbs heavier!? Uh, not nearly. The NG900 and OG9-3 are <300lbs heavier model for model. The regular C900T is 160hp, late SPGs a little more. The new cars are a minimum of 185 up to 205 for a 9-3SET HOT. So at least 25hp more, potentially 45hp. Owning one of each I can tell you that in equivalent state of health the newer cars will walk all over the old ones in acceleration. They also have infinitely better gearboxes. C900s feel all exciting and fast due to all the commotion and noise coming from up front, but the NG900 and up are quite a bit faster. And then there is the Viggen.... :-)
My suspicion is that the car driven had a tank full of low-octane gas, or was just plain out of tune.
I love my C900, but the NG900 is a far better car overall.
