Some cheap people say they burn them clean with a propane torch but I don't know why. They can't restore it to new anyway and the O2 sensor has about 100K of useful life and after that it is recommended that it gets replaced by the manufacturer of the sensor.
See it as an investment for the future.
The front O2 sensor plays a major role in gas mileage so a well worn one might make the engine use quite a bit more gas.
A worn and lazy O2 sensor might also reduce the efficiency of catalytic converter so last smog you might have passed if you had replaced the sensor only.
