I've been reading through the various posts trying to diagnose a noise that has developed in my engine. I'll try and describe it as best I can.
A few weeks ago there was a faint rattly type sound that i could hear from the engine. By rattle I don't mean a randoms sound that only occurs under load. Rather a more rythmic sound or perhaps a clatter would be a better term. I was unable to locate the source of the sound under the hood, so I just kept monitoring it. Then a few days ago the noise got considerably louder. Now I can locate it and its coming from the Passengers side of the engine block.
I was thinking it might be AC-Compressor, but I've looked it over and there doesn't seem to be any abnormalities to the naked eye and the pulley doesn't seem to be loose. Back in May I actually had to have a pulley replaced and my garage should have inspected everything as far as the pulleys go at that time. Also seem to have cold air, though I think the system needs to recharged in general.
So I got my ear close to everything and it sounds more like the noise is coming from the the left side of the engine near the AC Compressor and the exhaust manifold. The noise does increase in rhythm with the engine and it doen't seem to be affecting the engines performance at all.
So I've been running through the posts looking for anything that might go wrong in that area. Water Pumps, Timing Belt, poor oil flow, sticking valves and before I get too freaked out I thought I'd through it out to everyone's views.
If its something serious I want to get it looked at right away even though I won't be able to afford the repairs. Thanks ahead of time.
