Howdy all -

Over the weekend I picked up a 2000 9-3 convertible that "needs work." The previous owner said the car was making a noise, and his shop's diagnosis was it needed a new water pump (among other, less important things). The PO drove it home and parked the car. He moved it twice since then, but it went hundreds of feet, not miles.

The coolant reservoir is full, and there are no leaks while it sits there. The serpentine belt is not attached to anything - it's jumbled on the side of the engine. I don't think the car would have gone terribly far without a serpentine belt - assuming it didn't overheat quickly, the battery would only be good for a little while. Plus, the serpentine belt looks more or less like it fell off - it's not trashed or destroyed.

All this in mind, I think the problem may not have been the water pump making the noise, but a tensioner or idler. Possibly while sitting, but maybe during one of the short moves the dying part failed and the belt fell off its track.

Could still be a bad water pump, could be a totally trashed engine as a result, but it's where I'm starting from. This is my parts order:

1 Hose (water pump outlet) (9178849M) - Unit Price: 6.90
1 Idler Pulley Kit (55562635) - Unit Price: 47.70
6 Long-life antifreeze (blue, 1.5 liter) (BLUE COOLANT) - Unit Price: 9.90
1 Serpentine Belt (4961066) - Unit Price: 28.90
1 Serpentine belt tensioner (4898755) - Unit Price: 104.90
1 Tensioner Bolt (55562633) - Unit Price: 3.33
1 Thermostat Kit (89 degree) (30577561) - Unit Price: 21.60
1 Upper Radiator Hose (4964789) - Unit Price: 8.99
1 Water pump kit (93166829) - Unit Price: 146.47

Anything I'm missing or should pay attention to while the side of the engine is accessible? It's got 110k on it now.

Thanks!
