I race my car (2001 Saab 9-3 modified) and the one thing that I notice about our cars is they can be hard to shift in the middle RPM range. Whenever I shift the car from second to third around 4000 to 5000 RPM it tends to be a little sloppy regardless of how quick and smooth the shift is. The best advice I can give is get very good at shifting just before red line when you are pushing it and as with any other turbocharged car the best shifts will be quick ones where the turbo charger doesn't have the ability spool down. If you are still having problems then it is probably hardware or operator failure.
