Viggen/Aero folks know who they are...reliability? Posted by Mike Lynch [Email] (#81) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Mike Lynch) on Thu, 11 Dec 2008 16:22:41 In Reply to: SE vs Viggen, Nils99, Wed, 10 Dec 2008 16:55:09 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
There's a certain visceral appeal to the high performance models. 17" wheels, lowered suspension with curb crunching front spoilers, sport seats, high output motors and aero body kits have an irrational appeal.
So when someone has to ask if a Viggen is worth it then the answer is no. Viggen/Aero folks know who they are.
I say Viggen/AERO because the other high performance Saab is the 9-5 Aero. Check one out and remember all the cool people drive SportWagons. Much more civilized than the Viggen, but still very high performance and available as an auto whereas the Viggens were only sticks.
Also the 2.3 Viggen/Aero engine is just as durable as any Saab engine, which means 200,000+ miles easy with good service habits.
And a manual is not more reliable than an auto IMHO. Clutches are fragile and manual gearbox problems occur with about the same frequency as automatic problems mechanically speaking without regard to the addtional clutch replacement issues of every stick.
