I've been following your tails of woe on this and I think the genral concensus has been that that you might be a little paranoid about the timing chain. But I checked your previous posts and came to realize that you've owned several Saabs--you certainly should know what they sound like and you obviously hear something that doesn't sound right (and we obviously can't listen to it). I'm wondering if maybe you might have a case of engine sludging. I've not experienced it my self but I have to beleive that as the upper engine is slowly starved of oil it would start making some unusual noises. It might be well worth your while to pull the valve cover and see what it looks like. At the same time you could get a gander at the timing chain. Timing chain problems were common on 9000's which I've had several of. I don't know how they are on 900's but when they started to get loose on a 9K they would wear against a small pad on the valve cover. There's not much you can tell just by looking at them but if they have a similar pad it might give you a clue if there's a problem. If you have sludging it would obviously be good to know and they usually need a valve cover gasket after 100K anyway so you could view it as preventative maintenance. It's sort of the the tombstone inscription "See, I told you I was sick."
