Sludging is most prevalent on 2000-2003 T-7 engines

Most of the advice you are getting is centered around the sludge issue.
The problem is most likely to occur on 9-3 and 9-5 turbocharged engines with T-7 engine maanagement systems(manufactured between 2000 and 2003).
These turbo charged engines all have low friction pistons which allow high levels of blow by, and inadequate PCV systems to remove the combustion by - products from the crankcase. In addition the oil pumps were weak and the oil pick-up screen in the sump is restrictive and gets clogged easily.
The good news is that your 1998 9-3 with the 2.3 non turbo engine predates the T-7 redesign and has none of these contributers to sludging.
Unless you have reason to believe the engine was poorly maintained (infequent oil changes), I would not expect it to need special attention with regard to sludge which is recommended for the T-7 engines.
