Could the bodyshop have DRAINED the oil on my 9-3? Posted by Nicholas [Email] ![]() ![]() |
I had the most baffling episode today with my SAAB 9-3. Basically it was in shop to repair damage done when the faulty hood latch caused the hood to flip up while the vehicle was travelling fast and smashed into the winshield causing major damage to the hood and windshield but not much to rest of car. Well long story short I got part of the damage covered under my comp ins and paid the rest and wife drove off with the car. Well within less than a few miles of driving the car started going nuts and the oil light came on (never has before on this car and has no major oil leaks). So, she called and I fig'd it was some sensor, etc. (bad call but I never imagined the car had no oil) Well she wound up on the side of road. The closest Jiffy Lube was nice enough to come by and they added over 4 QUARTS of oil to the car! It was indeed near empty. Well, after starting it back up it appears the car now has permanent engine damage (loud knocking noises).
Could they or would they ever do such a thing as drain the engine oil? Could my car have been mixed up? Unfortunately the wife has some kind of memory loss and can't remember where she last has the oil changed so it's maybe *possible* they didn't add enough oil, etc at the very last change. HOWEVER, we've been driving (and I've even been repairing) this car for months now since the last documented oil change. I would think if some crazy shop didn't put the oil in the engine would have blown up as it did quite quickly after leaving this body shop. I just changed the tranny fluid on it a week or so ago! The main question here to point at the body shop is "Can this SAAB run for very long with little or no oil"? My guess is not, and if that's correct then this body shop or someplace they took it too lost my oil. They did work on both front fenders, took a to a tint shop (for the windshield curtain) and "washed" it. I just wonder if something hapenned through all of that. Also, they wound up towing the car from my driveway when nobody was home and did not even have the keys to the locked car with the brake on (not sure if that would have any impact on the engine oil).
Well hopefully at least some SAAB experts here might be able to shed some light on this as engine oil relates to this car. I mean if it's entirely possible that this car can run OK for a long time with little or no oil then there is that small chance that the last change wasn't right (wife can't remember who/where :-| don't ask me why). However if that's not possible then it looks like I've got a fight on my hands with this body shop as the engine has some serious damage. Thanks for any help, I sure need it.
