IMS you must be psychic! We got SCREWED at the Jiffy :( Posted by Nicholas [Email] ![]() ![]() In Reply to: Re: tough argument to make, lms, Thu, 22 Jan 2009 09:23:21 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Well! Since the wife couldn't remember details of the ONLY thing I trusted her to do. Also since I KNOW this car had nothing but typical *minor* oil pan "seepage" due to age and condition and no smoke/burn - I know it doesn't lose oil. Unlike her, I maintained the oil near perfect up until about a year ago and I always change with full synth. I always do on every vehicle I've ever owned all the time and as close to 3-4K miles as I can get it. I vouch for it as I've absolutely maxed out the life of every vehicle I've owned to well over 100K miles and then been able to sell at a good buck due to maintenance. This is a near 100% Florida car, and it's never been low on oil at a change to my knowledge.
So, anyway ... all the attacks and assumptions aren't appreciated from you other guys ;) Anyway, I started putting the pieces together today as I found out "so far" from the "average" shop that the car has some possible "rod" damage , now misfires like crazy at higher RPMS, and of course terrible noise. Bottom line is this engine is most likely toast and it's a sad thing since this is what hapenned.
About 8 months ago, she changed the oil in my name at the Jiffy Lube - and several times before that. Turns out she simply hadn't changed or checked it since then. Not surprisingly, this was the same Jiffy Lube that strangely offerred to come out and give her oil on the side of the road after the damage occurred. I later found out this was no accident but rather a CYA for Jiffy. I started thinking about how I could find out for a fact who last changed the oil and when on the car so I went back to the Jiffy Lube and asked about the oil filters, markings, etc. (got the car just around the corner at TK). They started flipping out and somehow knew all about what hapenned last night. Well long story short, the Performax (Jiffy common) filter still on the SAAB was initialed and tagged by the Jiffy Lube store corresponding to record of 8 months ago. To no surprise the **** that let the car drive off with no oil mistakenly tagged the car in the database at over 125K miles when even to this day the car has less than 83K miles :( Apparently, SAABS are really good engines and maybe even better when maintained well with synth and driven not too much in a warm climate. By my calculations this car was driving somewhere around 5K miles over an 8 month period. Of course since 8 months has past, the **** that ruined the engine was fired, blah blah, I'm in for some fight with Jiffy Lube. In fact, they started fighting me on the phone tonight before I even started fighting with them. I've already heard a "story" about how brand new Volkswagens burn an average of one quart of oil every 1K miles with no smoke! :( These guys are such dirtbags.
So..... as the mechanic at TK agrees. There is simply NO way this car burned up or otherwise lost near it's entire oil capacity without a trace in 8 months and less than 5K miles. Like he said. Oh it burns up 3 quarts in 8 months? Well let's let it sit or drive it for 8 months and see! Ha! The worst part is the damage. He said that's crazy enough alone not seeing cars with over twice the mileage and way worse maintenance having such catastrophic engine collapse. Then again, getting ******* at the Jiffy Lube can do that. I've already got a write-up of them going out and refilling the car, noticing no major oil leaks, etc. However, I could use all the tips anyone has on how to proceed with this fight. I can't believe these scumbags will try to use the fact the car isn't driven much and consequently not oil changed as often to try to get out of this claim - but they will try no doubt.
Needless to say, she won't be watching them change the oil again. I will with my eagle eyes and a baseball bat like I usually do whenever I have to have anyone other than a good tech work on my vehicles :-/
