Sanity check needed: While doing some front end work, I noticed something that looks odd, but it's been a long time since I looked at the capliers.

When I look at the back of the calipers, about 1/2" of each guide pin shows behind the caliper body. I could have sworn that these were always buried to keep them clean. In fact it seems like they'd be a whole lot dirtier if they were out like this all the time. Both sides of the car are the same.

My pads are somewhat worn, about 8-10mm of pad material left on each. I can see that if the pads were full that the pins would not show. But, it looks to me like the design causes them to show more and more as the pads wear.

It this right? Or is my caliper not sliding correctly across the pad holder casting and causing this oddity?
