I would not give up on the top plug yet. Get a socket type allen wrench, clean out the hole fully. Take a ball peen hammer and or a long punch and bring the sides in as much as you can. Then fit the allen wrench and see if you can remove it. If you strip it, you a no worse off than you were before.

If you can't get it out, most auto parts stores sell a manual pump type device that you can use to suck up the tranny fluid from a bottle and pump it into check level plug. Some trannies don't have a fill plug at all - you do all the filling through the check plug. The pumps are for those.

BTW- you will still have to get the check and drain plugs loose. Use quality allen wrenches. I had to cut my allen wrench down to a "short" version to get into the space between the frame and the drain plug.
