IIRC, all NG900, 2.3L 9000, OG9-3 and 4cyl 9-5 motors are evolutions derived from the Saab H B202 (C900 & early 9000) and are designated B204, B234, B205 (2000 on OG 9-3)and B235, respectively. The current 9-5 is to be the last car using a H derived motor and as such, a 2004-05 9-5 Aero is the last Saab I plan to own (I don't like the styling on 2006-> 9-5). I believe the next gen. 9-5 is to have the Saab tweaked GM motor. After owning several GM 4 and 6 cyl cars I've yet to be impressed by GM's mass market engineered engines. They make a great V-8 though.
