The road trip will be less than 4,000 miles so this is good news... it won't be death valley but will be pretty deep into the midwest & back where the temps can be pretty warm. I'm also attending a few concerts so there will be some pretty significant traffic jams going in & out of the venues.
I do check the oil level frequently & have never noticed any consumption. I think I will bring along some M1 15w-50 and then maybe switch to the amsoil 10w-40 year round as you suggest Eiron... I think I remember reading somewhere that Mobil 1 runs thinner than Amsoil making their 15w-50 closer to Amsoil 10w-40.
I started using 15w-50 in the 1st place because as I recall, the owners manual says to use it in temps over 60F which is definitely the case in FL.
