If you search the posts you'll see the ignition switch is a common issue. In my experience, and from what I've read it is not the key cylinder but the part underneath that plugs the ignition switch together.
On a manual it is a pain to remove the console to be able to get at it to replace it. When I replaced my own it took me quite a bit of time because I didn't remove the linkage to the shifter and had to remove and reinstall it blind. On an automatic the console just lays on it side and is quite easy.
Anyway, for a dealer to replace that part is usually quite expensive. Search the posts for ignition switch related issues and see if they sound like your troubles. I think the cylinder itself is a red herring. When I had issues the switch wouldn't spring back to normal position so the starter would continue to engage.
