I also have the same problem at the drivers site with my 9-3 TID 2001, a knocking sound that has become worse by driving a lot of kilometers (20000km). The sound start at 15 km/h and is the worse at 90 km/h, and by turning right (or even left) it beginnes also more to knock, even when you apply the brakes you can feel it. I think the carpower and weight is to high for this inner drivers of the driveshaft for this Saab's 9-3.
I also think the brake disc is faster worn out at the side were this driver has slack. (I already have to change the disc and breakes)
To the point: if you look under the car and try to wiggle the inner driverboot (the metal bus that comes out of your transmissions differential) with your hands you will see a slip of a few mm, then it is torn out and begins to knock (not on wood, on the Saab)
But the parts (inner driver) is very expensive (400 $?

Inner Driver Failures
The inner drivers connect the transmission to the drive shafts. They can fail from lubrication issues or from wear and tear, the thrust surfaces can develop depressions inside the carrier above on the mating surfaces. A very small depression in the driver mating surface will cause a vibration problem under loads or acceleration as the tripod bearings rides in and out of the worn area. If you want to do this job right then replace the worn inner drivers, the tripod bearings and replace the boot. Castrol Wheel Bearing Grease NLGI ( a lithium based grease) seems to work better for long term lubrication..
Saab 79-94 900 Right side failure is more common than left (especially on 900 Automatic cars) Due to exhaust location
Saab 900 94-98 drivers side tends to go bad more frequently than the passenger side.
