JustinB puts you on the right track. Do a search on limp-home-mode to find out how to reset the throttle body. Because if it is in LHM, you probably will not be able to drive it to the mechanic. Following the directions given there, it is fairly simple to reset TB.

Do a search for postings by me and see if you come across a posting I did regarding steps I took to fix my LMH problem. Since you seem non-mechanically incline, I am afraid your visit to the mechanic might cost you more than is really necessary, were able to do some if this stuff your self.

At 88,000, many of the components are dirty and need cleaning. Build-up in the system is cause out-of-range data to be sent to the CPU. And thus LMH.

Particularly important (but probably will not be done by a mechanic), is:
- thorough cleaning of the TB - including all nipples connected to vacuum hoses. While at it clean the PCV valve.
- thorough cleaning of the Air Mass Meter -- The heart of the AMM or MAF is the meter sandwich between the aluminum bodies. Take it apart (you should notice it is now blackened), and use mineral spirit or denature alcohol to clean the two bar, the honeycomb, and the diode --be careful no to damage the diodes. i.e. If using compressed air to dry part go light.
- change all vacuum hoses(preferably to silicon). And I mean all. At 88,000 it time to do this.
- lastly, if it time for a new Air filter plugs, do them.

If the mechanic start talking about replacing the Direct Ignition Cassette before doing some of these steps, find another mechanic or start getting your hand dirty.

For about 5 hours on the weekend, you can address most of the tasks outlined above.

Hope this helps.. Good Luck!
