You may be able to see something awry when you pull the pan and look up at the bottom of the piston. My piston actually had a small piece broken off the bottom of the skirt which I found in the bottom of the pan. You may also see vertical galling marks in the bore. Its tough to see up there with the crank and the piston oil jet in the way. This type of failure isn't uncommon on the B205/235 engines. If do take the head off, you'll want to remove all the pistons to check for damage, although it is usually #4.
