I pulled the caps off of the main bearings tonight and I think I found the culprit. One of the bearings was copper colored and mis-shapen (see pic). Also, I got a better look at the balance chain and I think that may be looser than I previously thought. It has quite a bit of slack (I can push it close to a 1/2 in w/a screwdriver).
I am going to replace the bearing this weekend, any thoughts on cutting that chain?
