ECU/ Other Electronics Causing Starting Problems

My wife's 97 900 non turbo with automatic has had starting problems for the last three winters.

Over that time we have replaced the mass air meter, (twice) the fuel filter and fuel pressure regulator, the temperature sensor and the temperature sender to the temp gauge and the ECU twice.

This winter after the fuel filter and fuel pressure regulator were replaced without fixing the problem, I discovered that by disconnecting the battery and leaving it disconnected for one or two minutes cured the problem.

Knowing that the ECU is adaptive and relearns after being disconnected, the mechanic and I both assumed that the ECU was bad, so the second one was put in. When removed. I discovered the old one had the markings from the local boneyard where it was bought last February (I had forgotten).

Knowing this, I am suspicious that another sensor or condition is damaging the brain over a period of time or a bad sensor is tricking it and causing the problem.

Have any member had a similar problem or have suggestions about other relays/sensors to check or replace.

All suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
