I believe that red wire is intact. I can see where it goes into a harness of some sort on the side of the compressor. I'll try to check it closer if possible, but there isn't much room down there. I'm still confused on the power chain here. Should the clutch engage and compressor start no matter what if that red wire is touched to the POS battery terminal? If not, what else is going on between the circuit?
I guess the compressor could be bad, but the car still only has about 60,000 miles on it. It always was a noisy compressor. The condenser coil was replaced about 30,000 miles ago. Up until now, I hadn't had problems with the AC except that about 2 years ago I had it vacuumed and charged. The AC shop at the time claimed there was some sort of very slow leak they couldn't find. It ran well after that.
