The car is a 2000, with nearly 98k miles. The handbrake was adjusted by an independent mechanic. Was okay, not great. Now, one must pull super high for it to engage, and even then it is not great. Should the shoes be replaced, or will this be overkill? In other words, can it really just be fixed by adjusting the star shaped screw by going in there? I'd have to remove the rotors....they are pretty rusty, and would rather not. In fact, is there an access hole? Given the way they are functioning, I'd feel better doing a complete "rebuild" but perhaps it can be avoided. Also, the mechanic told me it could be the cable; I doubt that...I'm currently not using the handbrake, just letting reverse do its job of keeping the car put.
Many thanks, Bender.
