jeremy i believe he's referring to the bushing in the engine compartment, as opposed to those under the center console on the shift lever pivot point. as far as the bushing in the engine compartment goes, you have to lift the shift boot, put the car in 4th gear, and drop a 4mm allen key into the small hole on top of the transmission. there should be a small plastic plug in the hole, but it's easy enough to get out bare-handed. unbolt the shift linkage from the rod and the transmission shaft. on my car, both are 12mm sockets. shift the car into 3rd after it's all unbolted. you may have to work the linkage around to get it out of the bushing, but its easy enough from above. the rubber boot is a PITA, so i just left mine off afterward. once the new bushing is in, work the linkage back into place on both shafts, forward of the shifter ball. before you tighten the bolts, you have to align the shifter or else it will grind when you change gears. when you put the gear selector opack into 4th, drop another 4mm allen key into the hole forward of the shift ball. it should line up with a hole in the shift rod, thus synchronizing 4th gear in the transmission with 4th gear on the knob. tighten the bolts, row the gears to make sure they all engage, then put your shift boot back on and get back to enjoying your Saab.
p.s.: my bushing pops out when i hit potholes, thus leaving me with only 3rd and 4th gear. don't grease the bushing. that was my mistake. quite the adventure on twisty roads.
