Here's just a follow-up on my 1996 bushing. I did all the following procedures to change my bushing. Always replace the rubber boot after new bushing as this keeps the road dirt out and bushing clean. The hole in the bushing has a pivioting ball and needs to be clean and greased and covered with the boot. After I replaced mt bushing the car shifted fine. Drove 82 miles to a friends house and the shifter popped out. Laying on a painters cloth in 104 degree heat' I managed to get the bushing back in after waiting at my friends house for an extra hand. Drove back with only 4 forward gears due to shifter needing more alignment. Back at the shop I find a small internal snap ring. I hold it up to the old shifter bushing and realize that this goes into the fingered end of this bushing to keep it from pulling back out. So!,,,,,,,, definately grease the bushing and cover with rubber boot. Most of all, Do Not Forget the snap ring clip to hold bushing inplace. Could have broke down anywhere, but was a blessing to happen where tools and friends are .:-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-)
