9-3 won't start. (Please HELP) Car stuck on roadside. Posted by Nicholas [Email] ![]() ![]() |
This problem seems to have "dropped" on my 2000 9-3 all of a sudden in the midst of some hot weather and moderate driving. After driving about 40 minutes at freeway speeds and a few stops/starts I found myself sitting dead at an intersection. I was able to restart, but notice the car running smooth, then rough ... almost random. Then, I noticed I was low on gas so I stopped to fill up. That's when I got some real problems. Car wouldn't start. No sputter, just crank. Eventually, after many cranks it just sort of started. My take is some sort of fuel issue, because as soon as I hear the engine "firing" it will usually start right away.
As I type this , I'm sitting at a Denny's some 50 miles from my house. After checking the fuses over and over, I was able to start the car again. Turned it off, and it restarted ok. Drove it around the block with no perceived problems. Turned it off again (mistake) and could NOT get it to start after.
The only problem I had just before this was air cond issues and the last CEL code was related to a short on the AC relay. I cleared it and retaped the connection to the compressor and haven't seen that code or any code since. The only other thing I've noticed recently is that the fan in front of the engine stays running past when I turn the car off. For some reason I don't remember this behaviour ever on the car. The temp gauge is reading about less than middle, oil seems fine and coolant reservoir is full.
Thanks much for any ideas - even something to get this car back home without a tow?!
