I just converted a '98 SE automatic to manual tranny using an engine and tranny from a '95. I kept the cable clutch because I didn't think it was worth it on top of all the other expenses. The main reason was I didn't want to have to split the tranny from the engine.
I of course still needed to drill the hole for the cable but I am quite happy with the feel of the cable.
I bought the Febi Bilstein adjustable cable from partsgeeks.com. It was so much easier to install than the stock non adjustable that I used on my '96.
Oh, and I'll be writing up the conversion from auto to manual in a future post. It is very straightforward.
