Broken tops can be very expensive. Posted by turrbo [Email] (#8) [Profile/Gallery] (more from turrbo) on Mon, 9 Aug 2010 18:29:23 In Reply to: 2002 saab 9-3 convertible, tiage, Mon, 9 Aug 2010 16:57:20 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
It could be one of two things...low fluid or a bad microswitch.
Low fluid is easy to top up, but it means there is a leaking cylinder or cylinders. Cylinders are very expensive (around $500 each) and are very labor intensive to replace. To check the fluid, open the trunk, shine a flashlight towards the back and you'll see two holes where the liner meets the floor on the left side. Shine the light in one hole, look in the other and see where the level is. If the level is fine (probably not), it's probably a microswitch.
Microswitches aren't too expensive. My 5th bow microswitch went (very common) and I believe it was around $300 at the dealer which included a top recalibration (which must be done).
By the way, what happens when you try to run the top? Does the 5th bow lift up at all? Tonneau cover open? Any messages on the SID?
