The shop you took the vehicle to is severely mistaken when saying overfilling the transmission with fluid is perfectly fine.
Overfilling is actually worse than underfilling, because it can actually lead to loss of fluid flow/pressure in the transmission because it will not leave as much atmospheric pressure to push the fluid into the oil pump in the transmission.
So chances are, something could go wrong. But the likelihood of something going wrong, I do not have statistics to tell. I would say drop the pan, and check your magnet in the bottom of the pan for excessive metal shavings, and if you have excessive shavings, replace the filter as well... again. And hope for the best.
