I've a 98 SE convertible with about 80k on it. Got it used about 5 months ago. It had bent wheels, needed new bushings, drive shafts and inner tie rod ends (which were a bit expensive). Had all of this work done, along with fluid flushes all around, new spark plugs, a new rear anti-roll bar, steering rack brace and subframe brace (courtesy of Taliaferro). Also, I've installed 4 new rotors and pads, and had the 3 bent wheels straightened and balanced. A few problems have remained, however.

First, though not necessarily foremost, I have an odd vibration at idle. It seems to be independent of temperature or gearing. (Automatic tranny, btw.) It sounds as though it's coming from the driver's side of the engine compartment, but I've been unable to track it down. Generally, I hear it when stopped at a stop light, it persists for a few seconds, then disappears. Sometimes it seems to go away when I turn the steering wheel one direction or another. I am absolutely bamboozled.

Second, even with all of the suspension work, there is a significant speed dependent vibration on the highway. It creeps up around 50 mph and becomes quite pronounced around 60, generally disappearing around 65-70. It is very much felt in the steering wheel. This too, seems to be sourced from the front driver's side of the vehicle.

I've a set of Koni shocks and Vogtland springs to install (also courtesy of Taliaferro), as well as new front shock mounts and rear suspension bushings. I don't, however, see that any of these new parts will solve my problem. I've spent an inordinate amount of time underneath this car to be absolutely foiled. Love my Saab, definitely a convert, but am absolutely desperate for some insight! Thank you so much!
