There is a lot of disagreement on this one.

I have a 1995 V6 with 133K. I changed the timing belt and tensioner at 91K.

Some would say change the belt and tensioner at every 30K. Some have said every 60K if it has the latest and greatest tensioners.

I am changing it about halfway between the two at 45K.

The belt usually doesn't look that bad, but the tensioners start to leak grease out from the seals, and if they seize, then the belt goes, as does the engine (effectively--valves hitting pistons is NOT cheap).

Sometimes the tensioners and the the belt last up to 60K and some go well before. It is unfortunately that no one really knows. I could change my belt tomorrow and the car get wrecked or it could go 100,000 miles. My car has been quite reliable so far, but that "belt question" always worries me--for beyond maintaining it, there isn;t much I can do.

My mechanic recommended that the thermostat, the water pump, also be changed with the timing belt and pulleys. Timing kit --belt and tensioners--can be had for les than $200 online at a site sponsor.

Lastly, as for me...if that were my car and it was less than 5 years since the belt and tensioner change...I would wait another 15K.
