Just looking for some ideas to have in mind for when I head to the mechanic...
Several months ago my car developed a kind of bucking/shuddering that would happen a few times in a row when cruising at highway speed, usually within 15 minutes of getting on the highway. During the bucking/shuddering the turbo gauge would dip down a bit, while feeling the car slow very briefly (like letting off the gas) and then go back to normal. No CEL though.
There ended up being a wire that was a bit worn through that was found while cleaning the throttle body and the mechanic did a temporary fix wrapping it in electrical tape with some foam for padding, thinking maybe it had been making contact and shorting something out. The problem was completely resolved after that, up until recently, when the bucking/shuddering has occasionally came back but hardly as regularly as before.
Today though, there was heavy traffic and I was basically idling and hardly moving, and after maybe 10 or 15 minutes of this my car started doing the bucking/shuddering (usually it would happen at highway speeds), really unnerving since it seemed like the car was going to completely stall, Turbo gauge was dipping slightly along with the RPMs twitching, going from 1000 to around 950 or so. It felt being in a car with someone learning to drive stick or something as far as the shuddering from stop and go (this is an automatic).
I ended up pulling over and checking under the hood and then just waited a bit with the engine off. After starting back up everything was fine and the rest of the drive to work had no bucking or shuddering, but traffic had also cleared up more by then.
Could it be related to temperature, and does it sound like crank position sensor related trouble?
