It has been a love/hate relationship. This the second and last new vehicle I've purchased in my life. I also bought it from a friend who owns the dealership. I did take it back a couple of times and actually wrote Saab. But it all fell on deaf ears. I actually trouble shot it better than the dealer. I knew it was a turbo issue right out of the box. During one such trip to Virginia I stopped at a Saab dealership and they said it was the turbo. At 35,500 miles I parked it at the dealership and told them to keep it. They looked at it and said it was the turbo and that they repair at least two per week. Which is the opposite of what the same dealer had been telling for two years. And the replacement did last until 75K with some oil consumption. But my question had always been, "what did running the oil down several times to a quart or less do the longevity of the engine?" My guess is that it won't make 200K and that seems about right. At 75K I swapped out the turbo for the Mitsubishi unit that is still in the vehicle. In general turbos are known to go through a bit more oil than normally aspirated engines, but this always seemed excessive to me. In general, I never understood why the turbo didn't have it's own reservoir of oil. Instead, the turbo cooks the engine oil and, well, there you have it. Hell they could even install a low oil sensor connected to the CEL and perhaps even that lovely limp home mode throttle body that requires three hands to reset it..... My therapist says I have masochistic tendencies. I said "no kidding, I own a Saab" :)
