We need more concrete information to guess better.
So the shop first aid that the alternator was bad and that's why you asked the original question? Because you didn't put any information in original post about problems and symptoms.
Wen the car died on the road, was it still possible to crank over the engine but it didn't fire up?
If the engine was cranking over just happily but not firing up, it could not have been an alternator problem or battery problem.
Maybe the ignition switch is acting up dropping voltage on pin +15 to gauges and fuses 17, 18 and 19.
If the problem is present they should check for low voltage at those fuses with ignition on.
