Thanks so much -- at least it gives something to try.
When bridging the two lugs -- and by this I mean the main power with cable from the battery across to the top lug that has the yellow wire running up the oil dip stick -- I do get a definite response, but the starter doesn't turn. There's clicking toward the front of the engine by the turbo, and quite a bit of noise from the dash (bells and sounds like the gauges going wild). When I did this I put the car in neutral (manual trans) and turned the key to the on position.
It seems to me the ground on the transmission is good (I get the same voltage reading from the ground to the positive on the battery as straight across the battery -- and to the side of the transmission for that matter.
I'm not really sure to tell if the engine is seized, but I put a 27mm socket and breaker bar on the front main bolt (access through the opening inside the fender behind right front wheel) and could turn both ways easily.
I have not checked the voltage at the fuses because it's a little tricky to do by yourself.
By the way, I can not get any codes (but that's not too new -- the SAAB shop had the same problem a year or so back with a Tech2 not connecting -- that was when the dash tach and speedo would go wild once and awhile, but the car was still running fine)
Any thoughts?
Joel
