1999 Saab 9-3 base auto with 195K miles.
I'm afraid I sludged up the engine again, or stuff higher in the engine worked its way down to re-block the screen.
Since Feb I am doing a lot of short trips, mainly back & forth to the commuter train station about a mile 1.25 miles away. Only putting about 60 miles a month on the car... but barely driving it on weekends, and between some work travel and work from home that reduces the driving about another week a month.
About 250 miles and 3 months ago in April after about 25 minutes of driving and at highway speeds my oil light came on & stayed on. Had the car towed to my indy Saab place. Pan dropped, sludge blocked oil intake screen cleaned, main bearings checked out, fresh oil and all had been good.
Couple days ago drove the car the 5 miles to my indy Saab place for some suspension work. I know they test drove it. I picked it up today and drove less than three miles and had lunch. After driving another 2 miles, while at a stop light the oil light came on again, but off when RPM’s above about 1100-1200. Made the next 2 miles to my next stop trying to keep the RPMs above 1100-1200, and every time lower the light came on. Six hours later I made the 3 mile drive home with no issues.
As its 90degF+ today, the temp gauge hit temp after only about a mile and a half of driving.
Any thing else could be wrong? When I called him he made mention of a possible bad vacuum line. Could this do it? Those are only a couple years old, and the EVAP Valve was replaced about 5 years ago. I know my PCV Check valve is original. Anything else mechanical like a oil pressure reducing / check valve? I know he did a coolant hydrocarbon test about 4K miles ago and that was fine.
Are there any additives or certain oils I can try? AutoRx, Kreen, LC20, a Lucas oil stabilizer, use a HDEO oil or a certain type to clean and reduce sludging such as Mobil Super (formerly Mobile Clean?).
I'm thinking about 8 oz of Kreen (1/2 the directions) for a couple hundred miles, and then an oil change with Mobile Super and maybe some AutoRx for good measure.
