Turbo Oil Lines Incorrect Size

Hey all,
I have a 2001 9 3 base model 4 door hatchback. I was having smoke coming from the turbo and took it to the shop to have a new one swapped in. Unfortunately that was 7 months ago. The mechanic has tried several different GT 17 turbos and all have oil line fittings that do not match. I'm the third owner on this vehicle and there are no service records from the previous owners so I'm unsure if a different turbo was somehow fitted into there. There doesn't seem to be any indication of any modification from when it came from the factory.
My turbo needs to take a 3/8th of an inch line. The mechanic also tried adapters and was unsuccessful with that. Has anyone else ever heard of this? I've heard of some tale that Saab only made a certain percentage of this one type of engine during 2001 and that I may have gotten the 4% that they made. I'm unsure of the validity of this though.
Kind of starting to wring my hands on this one as its been sitting for 7 months without being started and the old turbo had been dismantled (I think beyond repair).
