Thought I'd start a new thread there, since the other was losing "course".
The basic background is that my 2000 9-3 went through a few people, and the closest SAAB dealership over the course of a nightmare of a simple door panel bodyshop repair. I wound up getting the car back with damage/problems to include a SERIOUS overfill of engine oil. I think the car had close to 6 quarts when I drained it out.
While changing the oil, I noticed fresh oil around the downpipe connection to the turbo, that I've never seen before. Also, after change and proper fill, I noticed what seemed to be noises of turbo problems I didn't have before.
Well, it all took a big turn for the worse after a day of driving, and another test drive tonight. The turbo seemed to be "limited" in some way, so I took the car out , and at some point a few blocks from my house, revved just past the middle of the boost guage. Something popped, and then I heard the most horrible noise (like a grinding wheel hitting on something) coming from the engine bay. Idled to a stop, noise was still there. Wasn't sure what to do, since engine was still running, and I thought I could hear the engine running OK despite the other noise , which I'm assuming is a now blown turbo. i limped home at less than 10mph assuming I might not make it. upon turning the car off , and restarting in driveway, the noise was gone. however, when i went back out again, and revved up the engine a bit, the noise returned. Seems to stop only at idle.
I'm really thinking the overfill caused damage to my turbo, which is still original on the car. The boost guage still moves, but turbo problems are fairly new to me, so at this point I have no idea on the total damage done. Thanks for any help!
