While putting various parts back on after not finding what was making the racket, I noticed that the passenger side exhaust manifold bolt to which the heat shield clips was loose. In trying to tighten it, it simply fell out!
Maybe that's it. But I can't figure out how that broke or if it really is the culprit.
No smoke from the dipstick hole.
Screwdriver to ear test on each point on the DIC above each spark plug sounded like a healthy engine.
Tomorrow, if I have time, I'll do a compression test and post the results.
In the meantime, what is the procedure for fixing my broken exhaust manifold bolt? Where it sheared off is pretty deep in the block. Should I just try to thread the hole in the block and use a new oversized bolt?
