Does this happen to others too? Posted by MI-Roger [Email] (#882) [Profile/Gallery] (more from MI-Roger) on Sat, 2 Jul 2016 16:58:20 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I started receiving an intermittent "Check Soft Top" error message when lower the convertible top early last month. I inspected the upper limit switches and found the left hand one was not quite right. I re-bent the switch arm and things were fine for a while.
Problem started again and some sources, including the Owner's Manual, stated the culprit might be low hydraulic fluid. I loaded the WIS for my car and found how to check the fluid. For some reason this bit of instruction is not in the owner's manual.
Fluid level is fine so problem has to be bad limit switches. How many to buy, one or two? One is currently not right but the other is also 16 years old and possibly ripe for failure. I bit the bullet and order two switches last night, $114 delivered.
Today the top operated flawlessly. Arrrgh.....
Another question. What color is Saab convertible top fluid? The owner's manual said not to be concerned by discolored fluid but mine is even lighter than the color of new brake fluid. CHF-11s and CHF-202 are both minty green when new. Is Saab convertible top hydraulic fluid nearly clear? Or do you think the yahoo mechanic the previous owner used might have filled the system with brake fluid?
