Roger,
Here's my experience after 23 months of ownership. I've had no failures or error messages with the top on my '00 9.3 185hp. It had received new/reconditioned pistons and new hoses just prior to the time I purchased it with 83K miles. Somewhere, on this board I believe, I read a recommendation that one could use hydraulic fluid made for MB. It may have had something to do with protecting the seals and or hoses. In any event, the day I purchased my car, I bought a liter of MB Hydraulic Fluid (# H000 989 910 310) for $14.00. At the time, it was considerably less expensive than the SAAB brand. I drained and cleaned the reservoir and replaced the fluid. I've not had to add any since Aug 2014. BTW, the Mercedes fluid is the color of good Sauvignon Blanc, almost clear. Cheers
