Keep in mind that it is the shitty plastic valve covers that are the biggest problem. Sometimes they even have cracks on the half moon part.
When you torque down the valve covers they flare out in the middle allowing the rubber gasket to almost hang over the edge of cylinder head from get go.
You only need a dab of silicone at each half moon junction and nothing along the long edges since that makes the valve cover slide and flare out even more from less friction.
