Rustproofing questions Posted by Don [Email] (#1099) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Don) on Wed, 22 Nov 2000 15:28:59 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I recently moved back to Ottawa, Canada from Europe - my 1996 900s has spent all of its life in Europe and shows absolutely no signs of corrosion. However, this part of the country is famous for salt use and one sees all manner of fairly late model cars with extensive rusting. It is truly frightening. Although salt is used quite liberally where I was living in Europe, I never saw cars there with rust.
I have considered getting my car treated by one of the big firms. Ziebart will do an undercoating/sealant for about $300 Canadian (about $200 US) that they will warranty for 10 years from date of manufacture of the vehicle (i.e., another 6 years).
For an extra $200, they will completely detail the car, including a "chemical strip", polishing out the fine scratches, add a protective coating, completely clean the interior, and do any touch up of paint chips.
I am willing to do this for my car, as it is low mileage and I intend to keep it for awhile. My question is - is the rustproofing necessary?
Any and all comments would be appreciated. Thanks!!
