I've seen recommendations from every 3,000 to 25,000 (for synthetics, based on oil analysis.). I change oil/filter every 5,000. I use dino for n/a and synthetic (Mobil 1) for turbo. I've never had an oil related failure (on any car I've owned...). My 1991 S 2.1L n/a has 161,000 mi., runs great; uses 1 qt. every 4,000 mi. I did the head gasket a couple weeks ago and the top end was in great shape, including the timing chain tensioner, etc. For turbo, use only synthetic. Dino just doesn't hold up to the heat as well.
Additives: don't use them. Modern oils are very good. Additives are more likely to harm than help.
