Just turned over 195k miles on my 94 900 set.... and it's been a stellar performer. I have never had it in for routine service, preferring to do oil, various filter, plug changes, and inspections in the driveway. Mechanically, it's been great. The 2 ltr turbo never misses a beat, and is as fast today as when I bought it. Oil changes averaged every 8k, with dino 10w30 and cheapo filters (whatever's on sale).
However..... there are some problem areas with these vehicles--
1) Leaky AC components--- especially the VERY EXPENSIVE evaporator core. You MUST have the system tested for leaks before you plunk down your cash. And expect it, and maybe a few other things to leak in the future. It gets mighty hot in Texas.
2)Upper strut mounts--- the rubber can tear away if you hit major holes. Look under the hood where the strut shaft comes up through the strut tower. Rock the car up and down, and examine the mount under the big concave washers. Make sure it's intact- no rips etc. Also, be aware of any clunks and clicks from the strut area when turning the wheels. Could indicate bad strut bearings, or a deformed bearing spacer.
3)Tough to do without putting the wheels on a balancer, but 205-50-16 alloys are prone to bending. Be aware of any shimmy or shake at varying speeds during the test drive. Check for wear patterns on the tires.
4)Check out the cooling system for leaks. Especially the heater hose that runs from the passenger side block to the firewall, and the smaller hoses bhind the block and the firewall. Park the vehicle after running for a while, stick a sheet of cardboard under the engine area, wait a few minutes, and see if there're any drips-- both coolant, or oil. (leaky rear seals can be a problem too. I just live with mine though.)
5)Look under the hatch back/trunk lip for bubbled paint/rust.

All in all, this vehicle has been great. I have a couple loose suspension parts now, but I guess that's to be expected. Can't wait to pass the second century mark!
